Sheepstealer | Targaryen Dragon

Sheepstealer Dragon

Sheepstealer is a wild dragon, apparently male, living on Peyredragon during the Dance of the Dragons. He is dirty brown in color and was born when Jaehaerys I Targaryen was just a boy.

The inhabitants named him after his taste for mutton. He is rather ugly and has a very bad temper.

His den is located on Montdragon, but he has been seen hunting on Lamarck and around the Wend. He does not attack shepherds (unless they try to harm him), but he does attack the dogs that guard the flocks.

In the Dance of Dragons

In the year 129, Prince Jacaerys Velaryon offers land, title and wealth to any dragon seed that can master a dragon. Sheepstealer alone kills more candidates than any other dragon.

Dionysius the Silver, a man claiming to be the descendant of a bastard of King Maegor I Targaryen, tries to subdue it, but the beast rips off his arm.

As his sons try to bind his wounds, the Cannibal appears, hunts Sheepstealer and devours them all. Alyn Velaryon tries to tame it as well, but is unsuccessful, and owes her life to Smoke-of-Sea, who puts the dragon to flight.

It is finally Nettles, a teenage girl, who manages to tame it by feeding it one sheep a day. She then takes part in the Battle of Gosier on his back, reinforcing Prince Jacaerys Velaryon against the fleet of the Kingdom of the Three Daughters fighting for the Greens. Sheepstealer then takes part in the fall of King's Landing, landing on Visenya Hill.

After the Battle of the Lakeshore, Prince Aemond Targaryen, riding Vhagar, launches deadly raids all over the Conflans. The dragons of the Blacks, including Sheepstealer, try to locate him, but without success.

During this period, Nettles becomes the mistress of Prince Daemon Targaryen. After the defection of the Two Traitors, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen accuses all dragon seeds of treachery. Daemon then allows Nettles to flee with his dragon. They were last seen flying over the Bay of Crabs, before disappearing.

After the Dance of the Dragons

In the year 135, while the royal ost commanded by Ser Robert Rowan was crossing the Mountains of the Moon, some of his troops found refuge one night in a cave littered with bones.

To their surprise, they awaken a dragon, who is none other than Sheepstealer. After a battle that claims many victims, the animal and his dragoness, Nettles, take flight. This is the last mention of them in the annals of Westeros.

In the years following the Dance of the Dragons, a new clan from the mountains of the Vale of Arryn emerges, formed by former members of the Painted Dogs.

Its members worship a fire witch who sends young men to face the flames of her dragon. It is likely that they are Nettles and Sheepstealer. This clan later takes the name of the Burnt Faces and perpetuates the fire rituals.
